Harry Reid. Bigot?

01/12/10 09:46

Do we confuse statements about bigtotry with utterances that are bigoted?

Senator Reid was quoted in the just released book on the 2008 presidential campaign “Game Change” as saying that, “His [Obama’s] race would not be an issue because he is light skinned and does not speak in a Negro dialect”.

Is this a racist comment? Is it racism to acknowledge the existence of racism, however clumsily stated or anachronistic the language?

And are the Republicans who are calling for Reid’s head counting on us all to not know the difference?
