It looks as if 2010 might be another year for history-making nominees in the Oscar race. James Cameron who cleaned up in 1998 for "Titanic" is again poised to do the same for his fantasy movie "Avatar."

And box-office darling Sandra Bullock may garner a best actress statuette for her turn in  "The Blind Side."

"Avatar" is a big-budget science-fiction space adventure from major studio 20th Century Fox with a global box office haul over $2 billion. It is the highest-grossing movie of all time -second  to Cameron's blockbuster "Titanic."

"The Hurt Locker," a low-budget indie film about soldiers who defuse bombs in Iraq has been nominated for nine awards.

Just three women, including Sofia Coppola for 2003's "Lost in Translation," have been nominated for best director in the 80-something years since the Oscars began, but no woman has ever won.

And Meryl Streep's performance in "Julie & Julia" gives her a 16th Oscar nomination, including a 13th for lead actress. Streep has not surpassed Katharine Hepburn with 12 to become the most-nominated lead actress in Oscar history.

The Oscars will air live on March 7 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California
