Since President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor for appointment to the Supreme Court, Republicans have come unhinged. The increasingly xenophobic wing of the GOP, who made no secret that they would fight whomever Obama nominated, continue to chip away at what's left of their reputation as they nitpick Sotomayor's rulings as an appellate court judge.

It’s been a whirlwind week for President Obama. His trip, which began with a rather chilly Moscow meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dimitri Medvedev, and other leaders of the world's industrial powers, the G-8 countries, including the U.S., Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Russia in Italy. The president also made headway on climate change, one of his top priorities. Summit leaders reached a consensus, agreeing to work towards the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.

After eight months of courtroom battles and back-and-forth allegations of voter fraud, Al Franken has finally been handed his U.S. Senate seat. Franken, a Democrat, heads to Washington as the 60th member of the Democratic caucus, giving Senate Democrats a filibuster proof majority. Minnesotans collectively breathed a sigh of relief as Republican Norm Coleman conceded. Franken, a Minnesota native, who won by a sliver- 312 votes- was an unlikely candidate who first found fame as a comedian on "Saturday Night Live".

It was the most anticipated public memorial service in history, as friends, fans and family paid tribute to Michael Jackson on Tuesday, July 7 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Though initial attendance estimates were much larger, as nearly a million people applied for tickets to the service, most opted to watch from home. An estimated 20,000 people attended, while several thousand people stood outside.
